The Center for Ecoliteracy is dedicated to education for sustainable living. The center is a pioneer in providing tools, ideas, and support for combining hands-on experience in the natural world with curricular innovation in K–12 education.
The Heller Family Foundation promotes and supports local initiatives and programs that cultivate vibrant, healthy individuals, a connected community and a sustainable environment.
Islands Certified Local program was created by the Agricultural Resources Committee of San Juan County to promote local agricultural products. Local farmers, food establishments that committ a minimum of 5% of their food budget to purchasing local foods, and food processors who use a minimum of 75 percent island-grown ingredients in their products are invited to participate in the program, which promotes local agriculture and strengthens the island economy.
KLOI 102.9 on Lopez Island is Low-Power FM Community Radio dedicated to presenting progressive, alternative news, information and entertainment. By giving a voice to the local community KLOI provides further opportunities for creative expression and dialogue within the island community.
The Lopez Community Land Trust is a 501(c)3 non-profit, community-based organization. Through its Affordable Housing and Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD) programs, LCLT is building a sustainable island community.
Lopez Island Family Resource Center provides a support system for students and their families on Lopez Island. The Center is dedicated to support and enhance the security, well-being, education and life success of children and families on Lopez Island. LIFRC is also the home of Lopez FRESH, a food bank of perishable items.
Lopez Island School District #144 offers a diverse, dynamic, creative & inspiring K-12 education for Lopez Island students. The school teaches students about healthy foods through the Lopez Island Farm Education (L.I.F.E.) Program and provides a monthly gathering place for Evening Meals at School.
